Occupational Therapy Assessments – Wee FIM and FIM
Our Occupational Therapist at Allied Health for Wellness is an accredited practitioner for both the FIM and Wee FIM. The FIM instrument is a tool that measures the individuals functional performance and severity of disability by establishing the level of assistance or care required across the areas of their motor and cognitive functioning. The assessment gathers information by observation of functional tasks and discussion with relevant parties who are familiar with the individuals daily activities. The FIM captures the individuals current level and type of care and can also be re administered to determine any changes in function with rehabilitation or over time. The Wee FIM is specifically used for children aged 6 months to 8 years as it takes into account the child’s developmental stages and also has its application across adolescence.
Care Needs Assessment Report (CNAR)
A Care Needs Assessment Report (CNAR) is undertaken to assess a persons care need, this takes into account a persons disability or injury; their living situation; any current care programs; self-care activities; activities of daily living; rehabilitation activities; life and relationships. It may include the use of functional assessments such as the Paediatric Care Needs Scale (PCANS); and / or Mayo-Portland Adaptability Inventory (MPAI). The assessment establishes the type and level of care the person requires.
